Day 2 / Trier
The day's tour starts with a breathtaking ride along the Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and famous for its outstanding natural beauty. We also pass the Loreley Rock, where according to local legend an enchanting maiden lured navigators to their doom!
Our carefully chosen route continues on the superb quality roads that snake through rural countryside above the Rhine Valley. We take a well-earned rest at the town of Trarbach, to take on refreshments and admire the scenery, before resuming our ride to Trier.
Trier has many remarkable Roman monuments that are still largely intact. The Porta Nigra (Black Gate), the Roman Bridge, Constantine's Basilica and the Roman Amphitheatre are all well worth a visit. Trier is also a modern, thriving city with a large student population. The market place has a lively atmosphere; its wealth of beautiful architecture makes it one of the most magnificent squares in the whole of Germany.
On our return trip we ride a mixture of different roads including a section of de-restricted autobahn, ideal for those wishing to blow away any cobwebs.
